Spectacle of Migration

Last September, a resident of Cape May, NJ, told me that, on one day, the sky was very black with thousands and thousands of Purple Martins migrating south. I saw them here last June but my only photo of them was on the man made condo. The Purple martin is the largest of the swallow family in North America. The color is not truly purple. I hope I can capture a photo next spring.

It's awe inspiring how species of migratory birds make their epic journey from North America to South America and the Caribbean. Its our duty as a community and globally to provide them a safe passage. My wish for them is to survive and thrive. I look forward to witnessing some of it in mid-October. I hope to see some hawks. Wish me luck.
